Get your toes dirty in Aguada Puerto Rico…
Volunteer at Casa Verano in Rio Grande, Aguada. We are one mile from the Atlantic Ocean and five miles from the famous surf breaks of Rincon.
Native Offerings Farm is developing an ecological retreat. We own a small acreage in the town of Aguada (under 2 acres in Western PR) that we are planting to tropical fruits and various other edible and novelty species for beauty and biodiversity. The idea is to create a place of that enlivens your senses and feeds your soul. Flowering plants will attract many bird and butterfly species. Fruit will be abundant. The night air will be scented with Jasmine and other night blooming flowers. We envision this property to be a functioning small scale production farm as well as an agro-tourism rental.
Opportunities/Work Schedule
Volunteer for three hours a day and stay for free. We work from 8am to 11am on the property five days a week, and then we visit another farm or not for profit once a week to volunteer. The tasks you’ll be participating in will be varied; in the past we have had volunteers remove and trim brush, put in fencing, paint and plant and water our new fruit trees.
We have a two- bedroom apartment with a full kitchen that we can accommodate, at most, two couples (or a family of four) in. (Extra rooms in the main house are sometimes available.) There are bikes, kayaks and surfboards available for your use. You are responsible for your meals.
The apartment can also be rented for $700 a week, which will help pay for the development of the property
Time Periods
Stays from one to two weeks are available from January 10 though early March. One-week minimum stays. Longer stays can be discussed during your visit.
Logistics
We are close to the Aguadilla airport (BQN) and the San Juan airport (SJU) is about three hours away. You will have to provide your own airfare and transportation to and from the airport. We strongly recommend that you rent a car.
Puerto Rico is a part of the United States so no passport is needed and in many respects it is like traveling to another state.
