It has been very hot and dry on the farm. We were irrigating daily until the engine on our pump broke on Friday. It seems the irrigation always goes down on a Friday of a long weekend. Where was this hot weather in July? We are due for some rain and the crops do not seem to be suffering. I have a back-up pump that will be ready for service today. The hot weather did push some crops to maturity earlier. This is why we have some spinach this week in the share.
The vegetable share includes spinach, lettuce, radish, greens (arugula, kale, dandelion, mustard, komansuna, vitamin green, mizuna, tat soi), and peppers or tomatoes, or eggplants. The substitutions are beets, fennel, zucchini and tomatillos.
The fruit share includes plums, peaches and Gala apples from Singer Farm. There are Bartlett pears from Blackman Farm. Amherst gets the organic raspberries from Abers Acres this week.
