All the carrots and beets are planted for the year! Hopefully it will not rain too hard and wash them away. Carrots are small seeds and need to be planted near the soil surface. If the rain pounds the soil the seeds wash out and are gone.
The vegetable share today includes green beans from Porter Farm. A few years back Mike and I were talking about how our crews hate picking beans and the subject of mechanized bean pickers came up. It was agreed that Porter Farm would purchase the picker and we would buy beans from them. This would help justify the cost of the expensive machinery.
Other items in the share are scallions, bunched carrots or bulk beets, herbs, greens, cucumbers and zucchini. The substitution is japanese turnip. All the vegetables are certified organic.
The fruit share included organic blueberries from Abers Acres and cherries from Singer Farm.
