This is not overly fruity; it’s sweet, but also tart, and, courtesy of the onion and cilantro, savory as well. It’s good with roast pork or chicken.

1 cup finely chopped strawberries
1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
1 serrano or jalapeno chile, seeded and finely chopped
2 T finely chopped cilantro
1/2 t (fresh) lime juice (or lemon juice)
1/4 t salt
1/2 t sugar (optional)

1. Stir all ingredients together in a bowl. The salsa can be made up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerated, covered. Bring to room temperature before serving.
