Fresh orange juice is awesome here, but store-bought juice works very well.¬†Other soft fruit is also good this way–peaches (peeled), nectarines, apricots…

1 c orange juice, preferably freshly squeezed
1 T lemon juice, preferably freshly squeezed
1 t grated lemon zest
1/4 c honey, or to taste
8 to 12 ripe unbruised plums, halved and pitted

1. Combine the fruit juices, lemon zest, and honey in a saucepan and turn the heat to medium. Bring to a simmer and add plums.

2. Cover the pan and turn the heat as low as possible. Simmer gently, turning the plums once or twice, until they are tender, but still whole, 5 to 10 minutes, depending on their size and ripeness.

3. Remove the plums to a platter and turn the heat to medium-high; reduce the liquid by about half. Pour the syrup over the plums, cool, and serve chilled.
