You want firm pears for this. Firm, but ripe. An unripe pear will still taste unripe when baked. This is a good side dish for meals, but I’ve also had it for dessert–I drizzled a bit of maple syrup over the pear before eating it as a dessert, though the maple syrup, or any other sweetener isn’t really necessary.
1/4 c ground walnuts or other nuts–pecans, almonds…
4 T crumbled blue cheese
1 T lemon juice
4 pears, halved and cored, peeled if you like
1 c dry white wine or water
1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
2. Combine walnuts, cheese and lemon juice. Put the pears in a baking dish just large enough to hold them comfortably. Put some of the cheese mixture into each cavity, mounding it up some. Pour the wine around the pears.
3. Bake for about 30 minutes, until the pears are tender. All to cool some before serving.
