Save the radish greens–they can be used in many recipes calling for greens.
You will need to have a bowl of ice water handy after draining the radishes.
1 or 2 bunch(es) washed radishes, greens removed
2 -3 T vegetable oil
1 T curry powder or garam masala
1 t cumin seeds, optional
1 T lemon juice
salt and black pepper to taste
1. Bring a pot of water to a boil and add salt. Meanwhile, trim radish ends, but leave whole. Add them to the boiling water and cook for about 5 minutes, until just tender. Drain and transfer to the bowl of ice water until cool enough to handle.
2. Cut the radishes into slices or quarters. Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the oil and curry powder or garam masala and cook, stirring for a minute or so until the the powder is aromatic. Toss in the radishes and some salt and pepper and cook, stirring, until they are nicely coated with the oil and curry powder and are reheated, around 3 minutes.
3. Add the cumin seeds, if using (they add a nice crunch) and lemon juice and stir. Taste and adjust the seasoning; serve hot or at room temperature.
