Delicioso. This can be dessert, or breakfast. If you use the lesser amount of liquid, the dish will be quite thick, the more liquid you use, the creamier it will be. The amount of sweetener can also be adjusted, though I find that it’s easier to let people add more sweetener to their own portion. I don’t see why you couldn’t  use other grains for this; I haven’t tried others yet–I love the oatmeal so much, it’s all I’ve made. Besides apples, most fruits would work here, though I’m not sure I’d do this with citrus. To make this in a slow cooker, you’ll have to increase the amounts proportionate to the size of your container, as I believe slow cookers work best when they’re at least half full.

1 c rolled oatmeal, not quick cooking
1 1/2 – 3 c water, milk, or other liquid
1/4 c brown sugar, maple syrup, agave…
1/2 – 1 t cinnamon
1/2 t salt
2 – 3 apples, (peeled) sliced or diced
1 T butter or coconut oil or neutral oil

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine all ingredients in a suitably sized baking dish (not too large, not too small, just right). Cover with foil or the baking dish’s lid, if applicable. Bake for about 45 minutes. If using milk or a similar liquid, I would recommend taking the dish out of the oven at the halfway point and giving it a good stir, to prevent sticking.
