Simple, yet sophisticated. Nice with a dollop of heavy cream or Greek-syle yogurt. It’s also good for breakfast or as a side dish for pork.

6 large apples
1/4 – 1/2 c sugar (cane, maple, date)
1/4 c sifted all-purpose flour
1 t ground cinnamon
1/4 t ground cloves
1/4 t ground ginger
4 T butter
1/4 c apple juice or cider; or water

1. Preheat oven to 375ºF. Grease a large baking dish.

2. Cut each apple in half and core. Cut each half into 3 wedges and arrange in a single layer in the dish.

3. Mix the sugar, flour, and spices together. Sprinkle over the apples. Melt butter and mix with juice or cider. Pour this over all and gently toss to combine. Rearrange apple wedges in a single layer again if necessary. Cover baking dish with foil.

4. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake 15 minutes longer. Serve warm, with any juices from the baking dish.
