Asian pears keep their crunch in these sandwiches. Go with whatever cheese you have on hand, though Gruyere, Gouda, Mozzarella, and other “melting” cheeses are best here.
This recipe is for one sandwich–adjust ingredients for the number of sandwiches you are making.
1 T or so unsalted butter, softened
2 slices bread
2 slices cheese, or a handful of grated cheese
4 or 5 thin slices asian pear (or as many as will fit on bread surface)
1. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Spread half the butter on one side of each slice of bread.
2. Once the pan is warm, put in, buttered side down, one of the bread slices. Top with half the cheese, all of the pear slices, then the rest of the cheese. Cover with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
3. Cook, pressing down gently a few times, about 6 minutes a side, until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.
