We experienced back to back firsts on the farm this past week. There was three days of temperatures in the high 80’s and low 90’s then dropping 50 plus degrees to give us three days of our earliest frosts ever. The first frost was nine days earlier then we have experienced frost in the 14 years we have been on this land.
The hot weather matured the spinach and brassica greens faster then we expected and we had to abandon plantings. We have later plantings that we are using now so no worries. We did however loose a bunch of lettuce so that will not be in your share for a few weeks.
The Vegetable Share for the week includes Spinach, Spaghetti Squash, Potatoes, Radish or Japanese Turnips, Peppers and perhaps Eggplant for the last time and Greens. The substitutions are Zucchini, Carrots and Beets.
The Fruit Share includes Seedless Grapes from Erdle Farm and Nectarines, Apples and Pears from Singer.
